Shelton Robotics Team To Defend New England Title The Shelton High School robotics team will participate in the New England District Waterbury Competition this weekend at Wilby High School in Waterbury. Shelton-RoboticsGaelhawksThe SHS Gaelhawks will compete against high school teams from Connecticut, Rhode Island and New Jersey in an attempt to qualify for the New England District Championship in Worcester, Mass. The SHS team is reigning New England District champions. Team robot for this year is Talon XVI, described as “a fantastic engineering marvel that our students and mentors are extremely proud of,” by John Niski, SHS robotics advisor. ‘Recycle Rush’ is the theme This year’s game is called “Recycle Rush,” in which robots score points by stacking totes on scoring platforms, capping those stacks with recycling containers, and properly disposing of pool noodles, representing litter. Shelton-RoboRecycleRushThe Waterbury competition on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 28 and March 1, is free and open to the public. Match times are scheduled every 40 minutes from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on both days. Wilby High is at 460 Bucks Hill Road, Waterbury. “We are very excited to be competing so close to home so that our friends and family will have the opportunity to see our team in action,” Niski said.
